Also this month on Crete we did spent days on visiting the old and small Byzantine churches with frescoes. They're usually almost pitdark indoors, as they usually don't have windows. Here in the old church of Agia Irini I used a flash... shouldn't as they don' t like you to use flash in there. Anyway it gives an impression of the size of the church and you can see some frescoes on the walls.
The frescoes on the left side of the passage are like warnings to the illiterate worshippers... if you don't behave well, you'll go to hell and can await there this & that.
