Local Tradition

A bit of a disturbed night with a bleeping (in more ways than one!) smoke alarm in the middle of the night. I eventually determined which one it was - being in an attic room there are three - and took it downstairs and shut it in a cupboard at three in the morning. Weirdly, it has not bleeped since but I won't be putting it back up in a hurry.

Once we were supposed to be up we decided to head out to Ashford-in-the-Water and Monsal Head. A wander in the first and a picnic purchased for a walk and a sit at the second. Dad, Bailey and I headed down to the viaduct and a little further still to the river. A few shots taken down there including the little bridge extra. Back up with a bit of huffing and puffing and we had earned our picnic and our ice cream.

Back to the cottage before heading back down into the village to see the well dressing. There were a lot of folk down there, a brass band, maypole dancing and three dressed wells. The main one commemorated a 2 year 4 month strike 100 years ago by the Boot and Shoe Makers. Further down the road another commemorated the Suffragette Movement. A great deal of work in them both and lovely to see them freshly made.

Back for tea and then a walk across the fields in temperatures that are still not requiring that we wrap up which makes a change for our summer holidays.
