Dust and wings

Today is daughter C's birthday. We reverted to the old family "tradition". Chinese takeaways (delivered) to eat, and a cake made and decorated by S. When the children were small the cake decoration reflected their different interests at the time. There were some magnificent cakes.

This one is special. C has just finished a novel combining faeries and a dust covered world and humans struggling to survive. I found it to be engrossing and well written. She has had expressions of interest from some of those she has sent a copy. Nothing more yet.

S has shown the choking dust over the green land of Aotearoa (New Zealand), and a wing from one of the faeries.

At the end of the evening Young Harry (just 14 years old) initiated a discussion on some of the major concerns facing those of us who care about freedom, equality and justice. A serious note on which to finish a happy evening but an encouraging indication that the world may pass from us into safer hands than we fear are wanting to grasp it. Like the faeries in C's book. Humans caring for each other can overcome the bad. The message of C's book.
