Shakespeare on bikes!

Tonight book club was at another outdoor theatre event - well it is the season for it - to see Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

It was performed by The Handlebards, a troupe of cycling actors who carry their set, props and costume on their bikes as they cycle from venue to venue! They've currently cycled 792 miles! It's energetic, bonkers, charming and brings Shakespeare to a completely different audience. You would never believe you could laugh all night long at Shakespeare.

Four actors each played about 3 characters and they were literally on stage for about 3 hours. Sometimes two of the characters they played were on stage at the same time which required a great deal of ingenuity!

As book club organiser, I love being able to introduce people to new theatre groups, one they may not have gone to otherwise. I've seen them about 4 times now and loved it just as much as those who saw them for the first time tonight.

Quote for today:
Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon 'em.
- William Shakespeare, Twelfth Night
