Jacketus Hivisbilitus

Down by the waters edge,
Strange creatures on the river bank,
In fine bright plumage.

Lovely still morning, although very grey. Walking round taking photo's of wildlife when I spotted these. I crept up very quietly so as not to frighten them away, but they held their position. Normally this species is mainly seen in an urban landscape, but they seem to have started to colonise this rural area. How fine they look in their bright winter plumage. I wonder if the orange crests on their heads are part of some ancient mating ritual....
