Too hot to think. I felt I deserved this before dinner. A lovely Diana Henry recipe of roasted aubergines and tomatoes from the garden, with a saffron cream sauce. Unfortunately it involved having the oven on for half an hour.

I finished Anthony Doerr's All the Light We Cannot See -- I know most people loved it, but I found it curiously disappointing. It definitely didn't live up to the hype or the Pulitzer.
