Industrious

While somebody down the road has been busy printing colourful tee shirts, I have been busy cataloguing a CD collection (not mine!)

The collection amounts to something in the region of 1,500 CDs, but I have been listing the individual tracks, so my catalogue now runs to 5849 entries. Some are boxed sets with one “piece” running across four CDs whereas others are infuriating little bits; Erik Satie, for instance, can fit 48 tracks on a single CD because some of them are only 15 seconds duration. Idiot!

I have read more than enough of this kind of blurb;
No, not another Mozart piano concerto disc! No indeed, for this pioneering recording gives us intimate, almost domestic versions of three of the composer’s masterpieces, versions that have scarcely been played, let alone set to disc, in the modern concert era. Moreover they give us the opportunity to hear . . . . zzzzzzzzzz”

Of the 5849 entries, Henry Purcell has clocked up over 300 tracks, and Franz Schubert almost 700, whereas dear old Serge Prokofiev has only one.

My favourite obscure composer has to be Audefroi le Bastart 1190 – 1230
