Jungle

When I erected the greenhouse I used an idea from a friend of setting it about 50cm above ground level and thus in effect having a sort of raised bed. It does mean having a couple of steps to go down into the greenhouse but once there you can virtually work at ground level without much bending.

Now that works great in spring when planting and for the first few months or indeed if one has low growing plants. But if you have what I have this year, tomatoes to the left and cucumbers to the right, it gets somewhat challenging as the season progresses.

The cucumbers are now growing out the skylights and I have to balance on the concrete wall to get at them for harvesting. And the concrete wall bricks have become loose making it even worse.

However on balance, I do rather like the system and now when in the "pit" I can at least look upwards and spot the cucumbers hanging down, a bit like being in a jungle.

Weather continues hot, the tiny amount of rain last night was no doubt welcomed by the plants. This evening the skies went orange/black and thundery looking but nothing came of it.

Sky News is reporting that Friday is going to be life-threatening for all Brits on the Iberian Peninsular. They somehow discovered expats in Europe the day before in connection with the whole Brexit bit and have made video contact with lots from various EU countries fearing for their futures. I am not worried as Mrs May from Day 1 of becoming PM, promised that securing the future of EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU was her absolute #1 priority. I know she is a woman of principal and will deliver. Just as she has done all those things she announced in her 1st speech on the steps of Downing Street on 13th July 2016.
