But, then again . . . . .

Samson.

On our way back from Dunbar where we'd been to collect a rather special quilt, we stopped in Haddington to purchase (even) more fabric; while the business was being transacted I wandered around the town looking for a Blipertunity – my gaze fell upon Samson. The burghers obviously like having a statue with impressive attributes decorating their town centre, but I wonder if they really need to emphasise them to the extent of shining a spotlight up his loin cloth every night.
No wonder the lad himself is scratching his head!

A nearby information board tells us that Jane Baillie Welsh (aka Mrs Thomas Carlisle), a daughter of this burgh, apparently said, “Alas my native place! That Goddess of Dullness has strewed on it all her poppies”
It is fitting that the creator of the story board that imparts this information had forgotten to complete their sentence with a full stop.
