Mackerel Sky

Lots of mackerel sky today - sunny today, tomorrow, and the day after.

These derelict buildings, constructed in the 1940’s, are part of a fascinating place - Bletchley Park. It’s now a museum. We were told that you really need 4 to 5 hours, which we did not have. And on a day like today the Huts which form part of the main museum were just too hot. The working conditions at this code breaking and cypher discovering factory must have been pretty uncomfortable. Except perhaps for the high ups in the old mansion (extra).

But our tickets last a year, so we will be back.

At it’s maximum Bletchley Park employed nearly 10,000 people, three women to every man. Some huge intellects, mixed with a lot of monotonous activity. Very few people there knew what the whole thing was really about, everything was a secret even between themselves. And of course it was all a state secret until the late 1970’s.
