Silver-washed Fritillary

This morning we went for a walk on Llynclys Common before the heat got too oppressive. Having said that there were several stops under shady trees!

There were lots of butterflies around and we got chatting to a man doing a butterfly survey and it turned out that we knew people in common.  We all had the privilege of watching a common blue butterfly laying her eggs on a bird's foot trefoil plant which is the food of the caterpillar. I did take a couple of photos but from a distance as I didn't want to disturb her.

The photo is of a Silver-washed Fritillary as it's less commonly seen than some of the other butterflies that I saw today.
