Greece Holiday Day 18

8/8/2018 - Text to follow and proper photos rather than video still collage.

After breakfast set off to the monasteries in central Greece at Kalabaka known as Meteora. Had to drive over passes with the snow poles in position at the side of the road and even saw the snow plough all set up for business. Car temperature gauge showed 12°C at some stages.

After Meteora (incl. monk on a distant outcrop cleaning his car) we drove across the hills and mountains to the port of Igoumenitsa to find a hotel before the next early morning ferry. On the way, we stopped in a village to buy some fresh fruit and veg so as to have in case we go to the port too late for dinner and also for the next day's ferry trip. I think in the video Angie said the cucumber and sweet pepper cost 50 Greek Drachmas each - I can't in these Euro ages remember if that was daylight robbery or not. She claimed it was good value.

In total about 530km drive plus walking up numerous hills.

Angie had to obey the dress code (Cue August 2018: Boris Johnson Burka outrage) and had a stretch skirt which meant she could pull it down to cover her knees when visiting the monasteries and then lift back up outside. In years past on my various visits here in busier times (I think we were the only visitors), one would see busloads of tourists trying all sorts of things to cover themselves up. The good old beach towel was the most popular dress.
