On our way into our seats at the Usher Hall for a bit of classical music in the Festival. Vaughan Williams' piece A Sea Symphony. Music and choir was good the lyrics seemed odd - more Ivor Cutler than opera. Looking it up I see that the words were from poems by Walt Whitman. Still seem odd to my ear.
The 'support' was by 90 year old Scottish composer Thea Musgrave, who was in the audience to take the applause. Her piece was Turbulent Landscapes, a musical journey through six vivid land and seascapes by J. M. W. Turner. I'll need to go and look them up.
