Lesser Stag beetle

Having caught a male Stag beetle in my trap last year, Last night I caught a Lesser stag beetle!
The Lesser stag beetle Dorcus parallelipipedus is smaller than the huge Stag beetle, but at ~3cm it is still a relatively large beetle. It also lacks the huge mandibles of the male stag beetle, instead having smaller more nippy ones like the female Stag beetle. It is widely distributed in the UK in parks and gardens where it lives on decaying wood.
All in all a good addition to my garden list!
