Now that the track is laid it's time to start thinking about ballasting.  Finding the right sort, size, shape,.. of grit isn't as easy as you might expect but I have found a specialist supplier and they supplied a sample

Now I need to work out how much I need.  The sample covers 22 cm.  I need about 70 metres.  There's plenty of scope for a small calculation error leading to a big gap/surplus.
