Life through the lens...

Swan Lake.

Well Mere to be precise.

Our last morning with friend and fellow blipper
Northernlass and husband Al.
They suggested a walk round Scarborough Mere.
I haven’t been here since the 1950’s when as a girl my sister and I loved to sail on the Hispaniola to “ Treasure Island” to dig for Doubloons.
I wonder how many other blippers remember doing the same.

Unfortunately dredging and maintenance of the lake decreased, and the increased silt and weed meant that waterbourne activities stopped in about 1993.
After spending a long period beached near the North Bay Bathing Pool, the Hispaniola was rescued and still sets sail in the South Bay.

The Mere is now part of the Oliver’s Mount Country Park, and is managed by Scarborough Mere Angling Club as a fishing lake, with the southern end used by waterskiers.

It was then on to a local garden centre where, after a good look round, we enjoyed a light lunch before saying our goodbyes.

Many thanks to our dear friends for their hospitality and a very happy and enjoyable few days.
Looking forward to meeting up again in a few weeks time.
