Kitchen Chromatography 2

Following (with variations) instructions form the 50 Science Things To Make And Do book I wanted to demonstrate to the Flumlet what he already knows, that some colours are made by mixing others.

The technique is a basic chromatography, where colours from felt-tip pens, were spotted onto strips of blotting paper, the end suspended in water and, as the water is drawn up the paper, the colours are carried with it, but at different rates so they separate out.

So we see the effect (after about an hour, we couldn't wait any longer) from left to right: Red, Brown, Purple, Permanent Black Ink, Orange, Dark Green and Black Felt Tip.

Pretty though this is, we do need a blip of the Flumlet, so he's in the extra, ready for his snack.
