Poetry this morning - my favourite lesson. I don't know anyone else who looks at six serious poems in one lesson but it works. There's always a surprise or two in the poem each person chooses to concentrate on for performance.

I happened to be driving when we reached the Braunston tunnel. Our trumpeter and saxophonist played and the rest of us sang as I drove us through the full 1.8 miles of it - with a bit of help as we met boats coming the other way.

Another first: champage on the front deck  to celebrate John's birthday.

We moored for the night at Braunston and headed off to a pub where those of us who hadn't played before could learn Northamptonshire skittles: knocking over nine skittles with 'cheeses'. Then a moonlit walk along the towpath back to the boat.
