Today's the day …………………………. for a studio portrait

This is a photograph of my lovely Mother-in-law.

It was taken when she was 18 years old (or so it says on the back) by D. C. Harries.  He was a photographer in the town of Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire.  He had a bookshop in the main street with a photographic studio at the back, where he took his pictures.

And back then, getting your photograph taken was a serious task.  It involved getting dressed up and sitting on a special seat - and proper posing.  And when you got the portrait photographs, they would have an embossed stamp with the name of the photographer on them.

Changed times now with a zillion pictures taken every day - by everyone - and most of them eventually discarded ………………...
