Red Underwing

A welcome day at home. We emptied the moth trap in the morning rain. Autumn is now definitely here - there was a centre-barred sallow, an old lady and this magnificent red underwing in the trap among the very many large yellow-underwings.

The sun came out later and it was perfect weather for working in the garden. I finally managed to plant some of the perennials we bought a while ago, and have high hopes for a fine display of flowers in September - everything is now looking fully refreshed after the hot, dry summer.
