Restore the Shore

Restore The Shore is a very successful campaign that has been raising money for relief efforts of those effected by Hurricane Sandy.

Currently, 100% of the profits from the Restore The Shore are donated to the American Red Cross. I took a ride thru just a small area that was effected by the hurricane today and it looked like a war zone. The very beach I stood on just weeks ago taking pictures of stormy clouds approaching was an overwhelming mess of debris, broken boardwalks, condemned homes and street after street of homes that had piles of garbage in their front yards waiting to be hauled away.

The place was a buzz with restoration vehicles, garbage trucks, trucks with plows to push the nearly 5ft of sand that came up from the beach onto the streets and even the national guard who was making sure only residents entered areas that were not yet safe enough for regular traffic to pass thru. Many homes still without power. My Blip just shows a very tiny example of the loss of property and belongings.

I found out today that a particularly favorite spot of mine, in a little town Avon-By-the-Sea, that had survived the Hurricane was found to be structurally unsound and is scheduled to be destructed. This Pavilion has been a part of my memories of going to the beach since I was a child and it makes me so sad to see it go.

There is a lot of work ahead to recover from this hurricane but Restore The Shore is well on their way of making a huge dent in both the recovery effort and in the lives of the people who need it the most!
