Music for a sunday lunchtime

Blowing a hoolie and a fair amount of gusty rain so what do we do - go over to an island! The festivals continue and this time it's Masters of Tradition which as the name suggests celebrates traditional music. It's top notch and most concerts are held in Bantry House. Although this is  a magnificent setting we have often found that it's a bit too sedate and if we are honest, the performances can be a little dull because no one lets rip. This year they were trying something new- secret concerts. They were in odd destinations round the town and you didn't know who was performing until you got there. We we went to the Whiddy Island concert. A bumpy sail across and an even bumpier one back(sea sick tablets taken and a bag in my pocket just in case), and the venue was a small windswept marquee. But what a fantastic concert! We had a trio - I couldn't decide which to feature as my main pic so you get them all, and a glimpse of Whiddy. Dulcie on the fiddle and vocals (what a voice), Brendan Ring on uilleann pipes (blistering) and Bean in the striped trousers on guitar ( chilled but holding it all together). TJ and Roger were there so we had chips for lunch whilst waiting for the ferry back.

It was all happening on Whiddy, the Ellen Hutchins Festival was also in full swing and there was seaweed explorations going on too! Never a dull moment!
