New Shoes

Farrier Richard had been due on Friday but had to cancel at the last moment. Although still rideable, Angie was anxious that Sultan's old shoes were "pinching". Luckily he managed to come out today.

I always joke with him calling his converted Nissan pick-up a hearse. But it does have its advantages over a "normal" van with rear swing doors. The swing up sides and rear of the Nissan give him some protection if it rains or snows.

Although the horses have fly masks on, they weren't actually needed as the temperature is still cool. Poor Richard has to fight off Luna and the chickens who are constantly around his feet trying to get at the cutoff chunks and fillings of hoof horn on the ground. What is left ends up in the vegetable garden.

Today it remained dry, the sun came out and our PV could get back to producing enough electricity for us. Saturday had been so miserable that our battery ran out at 22:00 and we had to "buy" electricity until about 7:30 this morning. That has only happened on two days since the end of March.

To celebrate the return of summer I made a Strawberry Cake today. I had baked the base yesterday despite the shortage of electricity and worse still, forgot to take it out after 30 minutes. Thus wasted electricity and ended up with a crunchy base. The filling was good though.
