The SS United States

We experienced a wonderful illusion this morning as we drove around a bend in the road and discover what appeared to be an Ocean Liner crossing in front of us.

What we came across was the SS United States a retired luxury passenger liner built in 1950–51. The ship is the largest ocean liner constructed entirely in the United States and the fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic in either direction, retaining the Blue Riband for the highest average speed since her maiden voyage in 1952. The United States maintained an uninterrupted schedule of transatlantic passenger service until 1969. Today she rests at dock on the Delaware River in Philadelphia, PA. She's pretty much gutted now, but holding on to the dream of being restored.

I guess in one way or another all of us dream of being restored in one way or another... even if just for a moment.

Pray on,
Eddy
