A Pair

They are just beginning to ripen. Either Comice or Warren, the two trees are next to one another and I never can remember which one is on the left, but they are beautiful and will be delicious. I was trying for a shot of the crowd of tiny birds that was hopping around in the tree, hop hop hop hop, no bigger than the leaves, never appearing as anything more than movement and shadow. Hop hop. I don't know what they were eating, it wasn't the pears.

The garden is slowing down. Just deadheaded the dahlias and roses. The squash and cucumbers are pretty much spent, but tomatoes are just coming in with a holler. It was funny weather today: either heavy fog or a sprinkling of rain, smelled like winter, urgent and metallic.
