A Trip to the Top

A beautiful warm sunny day in South Shields.   We paid a visit to Souter Lighthouse, owned by the National Trust, situated a few miles along the coast at Marsden.  The NT gentleman persuaded us that it would be a good idea to climb the 76 steps to see the lamp (see extra) and enjoy the view.   It was a very steep and narrow climb but well worthwhile.  Views from the top were stunning.
This 'adventure' left us both gasping for a drink - so we retired to 'The Grotto' - just along the cliff road.  A fascinating place, carved into the rock face - see Mr. MD's Blip
