It took me awhile to figure out what was going on here: the parking meter was filthy and sticky, and I had to flick something out of the slot to insert my park card. I was in a hurry and didn't pay much attention. It wasn't til I got back that I realized I was looking at various stages (instars) of ladybug development. There were full on ladybugs, there were empty shells, and there were these in-between guys crawling all around. And then someone said it was Labor Day, a holiday, and we didn't have to feed the meters.
