Crazy About Birds

By Kimb

This is a life bird for me! We were riding our bikes home from the beach this morning, crossing over a little raised pedestrian/bicycle bridge that has wetland/mudflats under it and I caught sight of it out of the corner of my eye down below. I stopped the bike, got off the bike, extricated my camera from my bike's basket, backed up a touch, maneuvered closer to the railing and the bird, bless its heart, waited for me so that I could get a clear shot of it. And then it scooted off into the reeds and disappeared. The word "rail" immediately popped into my head, but I didn't know which until I looked at Cornell's website. Not a Virginia Rail, but a Clapper Rail. Very chuffed to have added a bird to my list. And to have gotten its photo, not just seen it!
