South Coast Scribblings

Gold Hill, Shaftesbury

This road used to be famous for a Hovis bread advert at one time (for those outside the UK). Years ago there was a huge fake Hovis loaf at the top that you could be photographed by with the hill in the background - I have an old photo of my husband standing by it!

We stopped for a cup of tea in Shaftesbury on our way to Bath. Unfortunately we lingered a bit too long and ended up in Bath in the rush hour, having to get to our holiday cottage which is in the hills above. It took close on an hour in solid queues just to get along two shortish roads! But now we’re here and it’s lovely. We are very high up and have great views over the city.
