Calne (Wednesday 12th September 2018)

Thanks to yesterday's rain and this morning's drizzle Decorating Wednesday with Refna had to turn into Gardening Wednesday, sorting out pots and planting bulbs. Productive as it was it didn't provide the '...After' photograph I'd intended for Blip. Instead this is a view of the pedestrianised High Street looking south.

The yellow barriers in the background shows the gasworks on the A4 that has been making driving through Calne a nightmare for the last couple of weeks and led to tailbacks back past my cottage throughout the last several days.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Sir Douglas Quintet - The Story of John Hardy (1965)
This is another American band specifically set up to counter the British Invasion by trying to sound British. Doug Sahm's band had scored a big hit with She's About A Mover. They'd failed spectacularly to sound English but accidentally created a great sound. John Hardy is an old traditional song that they probably learned from Leadbelly's recording of the song. The production is atmospheric rather than slick and it lacked much commercial success. In America it was only released as a B-side but was an A-side over here. Consequently, it was omitted from subsequent Best Of... style compilations, and I didn't have a copy until acquiring the CD I wrote about yesterday.
