water orton

today, for the first time ever i experienced something i have never had to endure before. i say endure, but before i set off this morning, i thought i may have enjoyed it, infact i was looking forward to it. how wrong was i.

i had to do a 2 train commute today, one to birmingham, and one out the otherside to water orton (near castle bromwich, i had never heard of it either) i wont go into why i had to do this, its pretty unexciting.

the "rat race" that i was part of for one day only is truly horrendous. packed into trains like sardines, hot and stuffy, and everyone in such a rush. sadly i had to do the return journey too, which was no better, if not worse.

anyway, the tiny little station which i found at water orton was a sad sight, but a very interesting one. the 1908 building had some fantastic features, its a pretty complex design with 2 large chimneys on the other side. sadly as you climb the stairs from the platform all you can see is the boards which have been added to keep vandals out (and all you could smell was wee) but i do think its a shame this probably wont be restored. mind you, i think i was the only person to get off there, and i was definately the only person to get back on afterwards. it would be pretty cost in-effective to renovate the entire place just for one person a day. shame.
