Marjorie's ramblings

Beautiful Wharfedale

Arth felt much better after a night's sleep, so I joined the long walk today.

We climbed uphill from our hotel in Ilkley, to White Wells, an old spa. Bathing here started in 1703. The original bath was replaced by two others in 1791 and one may be viewed now. "It is the coldness of the water rather than the mineral content that stimulates the circulation." There were no takers today!

From here we walked along the ridge until we were above the village of Addingham. We descended and walked back to Ilkley by the river. It was 10.5 miles and would have been easy except for the atrocious stiles. Some were downright dangerous. (Rant over.)

Tonight we had a little "concert" after dinner. It was hilarious with several people doing "turns". I did a little quiz of walking quotes that people might not know.

It's been a brilliant break with good friends.
