Edward Bliss's Mausoleum

Brandon was once famous for its flint knapping and this mausoleum is a fine example.  Edward Bliss, a wealthy businessman who became High Sheriff of Suffolk, bought Brandon Park in 1820.  He had the mausoleum built so that he could be buried on his estate surrounded by the trees that he had collected from around the world.  His wife, Sarah, was also interred in the mausoleum as she wished to be buried beside her husband.  In 1903 another family bought the estate and their bodies were removed to St Peter's Church, Brandon.

Walking in Brandon Country Park today.  Great place for long or short walks, somewhere to have a cup of tea and for the children to enjoy the playground.  I've fiddled with this image somewhat as it was taken in bright overhead sunshine.
