A goldfinch waiting warily to come to feed

I spotted this goldfinch visiting the sunflower feeders today but it was scared away by a flurry of bullfinches, who are rather bullying to other birds. It didn't fly far, just a few yards away to the nearby tree, where it hopped about waiting for a chance to return.

The bird population has suddenly increased again and I did see about a dozen goldfinches flocking nearby a few days ago. But it is quite strange to see a single one alone for very long. I wondered if this is a rather young bird and new to this patch.

I do love to see them and especially their coloured wings when in flight. They often hover around the feeders and even have skirmishes which give amazing glimpses of their beautiful patterned and coloured wings.
