Sgwarnog: In the Field

By sgwarnog

Footballer

The Footballer is the informal name for this hoverfly, Helophilus pendulus, due to the resemblance of its striped thorax to a footballer's jersey. This one was paying attention to the marigolds (?) on campus this afternoon. A suitable candidate for Tiny Tuesday and demonstrating that just occasionally I'm able to converge two major themes of this journal.

It felt quite warm but the only butterflies about were Small Whites.
