a bit of bother with his hover

...all in all, we got away lightly again today. It was raining when we got up and it has rained all afternoon but much of the morning was dry. The downsides were no interest in the uniformly grey sky and a very brisk wind.

Not knowing how long it would be before the rain started falling again, I walked up to the meadows of Durlston Country Park because the Dorset Birds website keeps reporting rare and interesting birds. I have no idea where they are seeing them because they are never there when I go and look. However, there is nearly always a kestrel, Falco tinnunculus. I am always mesmerised by their ability to hold a fixed position even in a surprisingly strong wind. Every time there was a gust, he would adjust his wings and tail to keep his head in the same place. That said, he did get caught out a couple of times. Once again, it is quite a serious crop and not quite as sharp as I would have liked but the scattered light helped with capturing his colour and markings.

We may actually get some sunshine tomorrow afternoon and Thursday morning, so fingers crossed for that...
