A Strange Day

After our walk in the woods, where I snapped this large fungi ,we went to see Mrs madwill's mother in Darlington to do the usual shopping and lunch thing.

We collected two large carriers of apples from the tree in her garden..and that hasn't even dented the crop!

We went shopping and instead of going out for lunch we bought a chicken and some veg to cook at home, so that we could stew some of the apples whilst lunch was cooking. So she now has several boxes of fruit in the freezer.

Whilst we were doing this the wind from Storm Ali was really beginning to pick up and it got very wild and deposited another bags worth of apples on the ground!

Shorty after finishing our lunch the power went off. After two hours and no sign of restoration I had to drive up to a hill to see if I could get a phone signal to check for any updates on the web. No scheduled fix time was showing.

By 6 pm, still no power and unable to leave MIL on her own in the dark, I drove back home, also Finlay needed letting out. It was probably the worst wind I have ever driven in. It was horrible. I collected the dog, torches, candles, batteries, toiletries and clothes and made the way back up the A1 arriving around 8:30 with the house still in darkness.

Power eventually came back around 9:30, by which time wine had been consumed so we had to stay the night…
