Oak Gall

After our unscheduled overnight stop with Mrs madwill's mother, we came home to drop the dog off and get a shower and a change of clothes before heading off to Doncaster to see our daughter and the new baby.

We took her plenty of apples and spent ages peeling, chopping and stewing several kilos of them. Daughter later packed it up into bags and pots for the freezer. Some was puréed (to be used when baby is weaned) and several crumbles were made as well.

We got soaked in the rain later when we collected eldest from school. I found loads of acorns with these growths and picked one up to blip. Dr Google tells me they could be knopper galls, caused by a species of wasp that lays eggs in the oak flower buds. Of course I could be completely wrong!

Drove home in torrential rain and had to laugh at the overhead gantry signs saying ‘Caution surface water’. The understatement of the year and blindingly obvious to anyone there!
