Reginald Street Baths

Several times on my walks around Derby Arboretum I have noticed this building which overlooks the eastern edge of the park, and considered blipping it.

I have now learned that it is Reginald Street Baths, a Grade II listed building. It was built in 1903 by John Ward, the borough surveyor, and opened in 1904 as a public swimming baths. It closed in 1982 and is now a retirement home.

I particularly admire the clock with the Derby Borough Council "Buck in the Park" crest. It was made by John Smith's of Derby, a family business founded in 1856 which still trades today as Smith of Derby Group. Their clocks include the Cathedral Clock at St Paul's Cathedral, the Grand Brasserie Clock at St Pancras Station and the Hourglass Clock at Burghley House.
