4 FARTHINGS = 1 WHOLE PENNY

Four farthings from different reigns:- William IV (1837), Victoria (1899), George V (1918) and George VI (1947). The first three all have the well-known figure of Britannia on the reverse but the last one I've turned over and she's been ousted by a wren. I expect a good number of blippers would recognize it at a glance and know that it would take almost 10 of these things to make a modern 1 "new" pence piece. One possible use for such "copper" coins which have little monetary value would be for doing the I Ching. Although yarrow stalks are often used the I Ching is fairly central to Philip K Dick's book "The Man in the High Castle" which is about an alternative United States under Japanese and German control after WW2. The oracle is consulted a number of times throughout the book but in the final pages the answer is provided by 3 old brass Chinese coins with holes in the middle. At least it's a lot less messy than reading entrails and doesn't involve any sacrifice.
