Monarch Chrysalis: A Miracle in Green and Gold

I thought it would be fun to show you just one of the four monarch chrysalises we have been watching in our yard. This is one of the "J-boys" who slipped their stripey caterpillar skins over the weekend, so it has a ways to go yet. This one is hanging beneath a hydrangea leaf, which has served as its umbrella during the recent rains.

The lime green is so shiny and amazing. But just look at those spots of gold. Did you know that the word chrysalis is derived from the Greek word chrysos, which means gold? So here is today's tiny miracle: a monarch chrysalis wrapped in green and embellished with gold.

The song: the Sunny Cowgirls, with Green and Gold.
