Final butterfly transect

A beautiful clear day tempted us up to Whitbarrow for the last butterfly counts of the year. It was quite chilly in the woods but there were sunny glades which felt warm.
Just a few butterflies graced our route, Speckled Wood and Brimstone.
As we passed into Howe Ridding there was perfect tranquility, not a man-made sound to be heard. I love this woodland so much, it’s completely timeless with ancient stone walls and the traces of dwellings dating back to the 13th century. There’s no better place to be on a day like this.
