Several very crowded clusters of what is probably honey fungus have erupted around the base of the dead beech.  

We're fairly relaxed about honey fungus - the tree surgeon's view is that it's pretty much endemic in a 200-year-old wooded garden and if the trees are maintained and kept healthy enough they'll tolerate its presence in the soil.
