Stag beetle larva

When my friend found four Stag beetle Lucanus cervus larvae under some wood he was moving by his front door, he asked me if I would like to photograph them before he re-located them to a rotting log in his piece of woodland. Of course I was delighted and rushed over ASAP!
So, here they are, stag beetle larvae in all their carnivorous glory! just look at the mandibles and claws on them - wow!!
I also managed to photograph some of my garden birds with my newly acquired 100-400 mm lens (which is very heavy!) I quite liked the results and have included a Starling smart in winter plumage in my extras.
