fallen

Although I’d been looking forward to coming home, I had been dreading seeing the damage that last week’s storm had wreaked on our trees, especially this one. It had been a beautiful copper beech and the children had always called it the “god tree” , apparently because of a marking high up on its trunk which looked like an eye.In Springtime masses of wild garlic grew under its canopy. It really was quite magical.

D was doing yoga when the tree came down. He said that he heard the crack of its roots breaking and then the whoosh of the branches .

It’s left a big empty space in the woods.
