Mary Rose

After a foggy start, the weather was perfect for our trip to the naval dockyard in Portsmouth.

We wandered in the sunshine.....firstly we saw the majestic HMS Warrior, then on into the Dockyard, where the wonderful old HMS Victory is permanently displayed....you can see both in extras.

Then we went into the purpose built Museum that houses whats left of Henry VIIIs ship, the Mary Rose. What a spectacular sight.....quite something to see!!!

The section you see in todays blip was raised from the bed of the Solent in 1982, where it had been buried for over 400 years! The other half of the hull didn't survive as it was open to salt water and creatures, hence it decayed and crumbled.

There are also over 19,000 other artefacts that were recovered and are now on display in the museum. Well worth the £15 entry fee.

Once we had completed our tour of the dockyard, we took a walk along the front to find somewhere for lunch.......we actually ended up in a pub that served a carvery, very unusual for me, but it was really nice for a change.

Afterwards we sat just soaking up the sunshine...it was actually 21 degrees this afternoon!!

We drove on to Southsea......hub, his sis and BiL reliving their youth, as its a place where they used to go as youngsters ;-) We watched the Hovercraft come and go, back and forth to the Isle of Wight.

Then it was time to head back Southampton, where we sat on the patio for the last hour of sunshine. Hub is at his school reunion at the Grand Harbour Hotel this evening....dropped him off already, and will be picking him up later!

Tomorrows forecast is wet all day and a chilly 13 degrees :-/ so a day in I should think!
