Wanderings & Witterings

Pineapple

Our day started with a trip to the Kelpies and from there we drove over to see the Pineapple (pictured), a National Trust for Scotland property near Airth. It was built in 1761 by the Earl of Dunmore as a summer-house from where he could appreciate the views from his estate.

Next up was a visit to, and then a boat trip on, the Falkirk Wheel. Despite having visited the Wheel many times during and since its construction this was only the second time I'd taken the boat trip, and I have to say I rather enjoyed it.

By the time we'd done that, it was late afternoon and most other attractions would be either closing soon or else already closed for the day. However we drove over to Blackness Castle for a wee wander and just caught that as the sun was low in the sky and nearly setting. On the way home we stopped once more at the Kelpies, now illuminated in the darkness. More photos were taken. It was that kind of day.
