Human

Reassuringly, loft conversion activity is going well and I like to reflect on the progress and how much there is still to do every so often. It feels like if work didn't get in the way, I could get 90% of it done in a week, but alas, with the odd day off I get about 2-4 hours a day done. I'm getting the gable end walls repointed next Saturday which will then need a few days of water spraying so my goal is to complete both sides of the roof in 2 weeks, leaving the gable end walls to cover up and then plasterboard everywhere. We'll see.... I've tried to avoid making dates so far...

Ok waffle over... a did as much as I could before heading down for the Moorflix/Midlothian Science Festival showing of Arrival - you know, aliens spaceships land on earth and we get a linguist to find out why they came here. We loved it so much 2 years ago we saw it twice so it was good to see it again. Despite being fictional, most of the film is about how humans deal with it and it is often very moving. Afterwards we had a linguistic expert from Edinburgh University give a short presentation before taking questions and it was a relief when lots of questions were asked! Always a worry when we do that... the image on the screen is the linguist in the film showing the aliens the word Human to kick off a chat with them.... it seemed to get the ball running, couldn't shut them up!!
