Bobtail skink - Bluetongue lizard - shingleback

Tiliqua rugosa is a short-tailed, slow moving species of blue-tongued skink found in Australia, 3 of the subspecies are only found in Western Australia. Bluetongues are not dangerous and are beneficial in reducing garden pests such as snails. They are not poisonous and will not chase you. They will not bite, unless you place your finger near their mouths

They have been known to kill and eat snakes.


About 10 % of the population are killed annually on roads, not always accidentally. They are comparatively slow moving, and can be killed while feeding on the road.
