First Call Delivery

Sunday and Monday were two days of solid hard work to unload the RSS James Clark Ross. Us Bird Islanders were joined by ship's crew, those heading to the other islands and the onboard scientists to unload food, fuel, tools, general supplies, loads of big timbers and three massive fuel tanks. Then backload all the recycling and rubbish generated here over winter.

The last ship at Bird Island was in late March and the next one won't be until February, so all we shipped ashore all we needed. All the fresh fruit and vegetables needed to be sorted to remove and mouldy ones and search for insects. Other foods, such as eggs, needed to be checked and the broken ones removed.

We now have tons of food and a well stocked wine rack.
